A Message From Mrs Crocker

A message from Mrs Joanne Crocker We are  coming to the end of what has been an exciting, adventurous and occasionally challenging year.  I would like to spend some time reflecting on the positives of leading this fantastic school.  I often talk about the resilience of our children and how they do a wonderful job of living in the moment and as adults we could learn from that. I have really enjoyed observing the happiness and wonder on our children's faces having some truly wonderful experiences in school. From the tiniest children coming into Reception  and Preschool for the first time and playing with the water funnels and dinosaurs, to the oldest children hanging upside down on high ropes or the excited chat as they get ready for their bowling trip; I have observed children where they have been wholly focused on solving a tricky coding problem using the Chromebooks, absorbed in the sewing of hand puppets or joyfully composing songs about potatoes!  Sports days  and trips have been perfectly organised to allow all the children to participate and enjoy the feeling of being part of a team or to be immersed in first hand experiences; I was impressed by every child in our end of year show, Ashill really does have huge amounts of talent. I am sure you are very proud of your wonderful children - they are grasping every learning opportunity with enthusiasm and determination. As always we have mixed feelings when our year sixes leave us.  We are sad to say goodbye to Dexter, Brooke, Lex, Rosalie, James, Annabel, Xavier and Dora but know they are ready to fly and experience new adventures. We wish them every success and happiness. We are also saying goodbye to Hollie and Olivia and we hope they will settle quickly and have a wonderful time in  their new school.  There are so many people who make our small school beat with such a big heart. The staff who work tirelessly to create wonderful experiences and learning opportunities, the PTFA which allows us to provide enrichment in all areas and finally you, the parents and the carers, without your support the children would not flourish in the way they do. I would like to wish you a happy summer and look forward to welcoming you back in the Autumn Term.   Best wishes,       Joanne Crocker    Categories: 1 CategorySchool News

A Message from Mrs Joanne Crocker

The end of the year seems to be rushing up to meet us, whilst we have so much to pack into the last four weeks of term.    We have Kilve for the KS2 children to look forward to and the Hestercombe House visit in KS1. Year six will be meeting up with their friends from Hatch Beauchamp and Winsham to go ten pin bowling and in a new trust initiative, the year sixes from across the trust will be coming together for a celebration event at Taunton School.   Ashill's got Talent In the final week of term we will be presenting "Ashill's got Talent". We have been working as classes to prepare some music, storytelling and poetry for you to enjoy, but we have also asked the children if they have a 3 minute talent that they would like to share as part of the performance. Some children have already come forward with ideas. We are not expecting every child to want to do an individual or group slot, but every child will be taking part in the whole class performance. We will be compiling our talent list on Monday.   Staffing changes Firstly, we are delighted to be welcoming Kali Willard who will be joining the Preschool team from next week. She is very keen to meet all the children and introduce herself to parents. We are also pleased to announce that from September Abby Newman has been appointed as the new KS2 class teacher and school lead teacher. Mrs Newman comes to us from another trust school and has a good deal of experience working in small schools with mixed age classes. The children will have an opportunity to get to know Mrs Newman over the next few weeks and she will be joining us at Kilve for a day. I will be continuing in my role as Head of School at Ashill, but also as Head of School at Hatch Beauchamp. Moving away from a teaching role means I will have plenty of time to be fully engaged in the day-to-day life of the schools.   Best wishes,       Joanne Crocker    Categories: 1 CategorySchool News

A message from Mrs Joanne Crocker

A message from Mrs Joanne Crocker Term 5 has been a full and exciting one. As I greet the children in the morning and walk around school chatting to them I am always amazed by how much they have to tell me about what they have been learning and the pride with which they show their latest successes.   Ofsted named us, "The small school with a big heart." This is how we approach each day as staff and as children, to set the best examples of kindness, acceptance and patience. These values were very obvious when Squirrel class went to Hatch Beauchamp for a D.T day, where they had the chance to make new friendships and help one another to succeed.    Road safety remains of paramount importance, especially as our entrance is so close to the road. We have had the road safety officer in to talk to the children and would ask all the adults dropping off children to park thoughtfully, especially next to the pub to ensure there is a safe route for the children to walk away from the road.   The children are looking forward to all the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations and we are slowly adorning the school ready for our, "Red, White and Blue day." We will be taking lots of pictures of our day to share with you and we would love to see how you and your families celebrate.   I would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome Mrs Sara Orlowe, our new MDSA who will be working alongside Mrs Poole and Mrs Burgess. I would also like to welcome Mr Nate Mee who is our new classroom volunteer.   I hope you all have a safe, happy and sunshine filled half term break. Best wishes, Joanne Crocker  Categories: 1 CategorySchool News
