A Message From Joanne Crocker

Dear Parents & Carers,

The one thing you can rely on in life is change, and it is always fascinating to watch how our resilient children respond to challenges and take them in their stride. The biggest change to Ashill recently has been the installation of the new safeguarding fencing around the perimeter of the school.

It was interesting to get the children's perspective on this development, which was on the whole very positive. They understood that the fencing was to keep them safe, they observed that they could now see into the hedgerow around the trim trail and saw the gate area as an opportunity to display work they are proud of.

Life is all about change, and I am very proud of our children who adapted and used a situation to their advantage. Keep positive and inspire hope.

A message from Mrs Joanne Crocker

A message from Mrs Joanne Crocker Term 5 has been a full and exciting one. As I greet the children in the morning and walk around school chatting to them I am always amazed by how much they have to tell me about what they have been learning and the pride with which they show their latest successes.   Ofsted named us, "The small school with a big heart." This is how we approach each day as staff and as children, to set the best examples of kindness, acceptance and patience. These values were very obvious when Squirrel class went to Hatch Beauchamp for a D.T day, where they had the chance to make new friendships and help one another to succeed.    Road safety remains of paramount importance, especially as our entrance is so close to the road. We have had the road safety officer in to talk to the children and would ask all the adults dropping off children to park thoughtfully, especially next to the pub to ensure there is a safe route for the children to walk away from the road.   The children are looking forward to all the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations and we are slowly adorning the school ready for our, "Red, White and Blue day." We will be taking lots of pictures of our day to share with you and we would love to see how you and your families celebrate.   I would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome Mrs Sara Orlowe, our new MDSA who will be working alongside Mrs Poole and Mrs Burgess. I would also like to welcome Mr Nate Mee who is our new classroom volunteer.   I hope you all have a safe, happy and sunshine filled half term break. Festive Greetings to all

Dear Parents & Carers, As the term and the year draws to a close I have been reflecting on all the positives the Autumn term has brought. I read back through the newsletters that have gone out this term intending to pick out one or two highlights but found every paper was filled with amazing learning experiences, children supporting each other and a whole range of activities that show how the community supports the school and in turn the school supports the community. So before we move forward into the new year I wanted to say some thank yous.   Thank you to the children who embrace every opportunity with enthusiasm. So much so that they raised a staggering £530 for Children in Need Thank you to the team in school who have worked tirelessly in pursuit of excellence. Thank you to the PTFA for giving their time and energy to raising funds for the school and being incredibly flexible and creative.   Sadly though we will be saying goodbye to some valued members of our team. We will miss Miss Aherne greatly as she embarks on new challenges and although Mrs Poynter has been with us just for a term, she too has made a big contribution to the school. We wish them both well.   I do hope you all have a safe, healthy and wonderful Christmas holiday. I look forward to seeing you all in the new year. A Message from Joanne Crocker

Dear Parents & Carers, As I walked around the school this week I have felt so proud of the wonderful learning environments our children are enjoying and how much collaborative effort from children and staff  goes into creating these dynamic spaces. In Squirrel Class the children are exploring a new interactive Maths display and taking pride in adding to their progression of skills writing display, whilst in Hedgehog class the children show real independence when they tackle each new and exciting challenge. One very exciting opportunity we have had this term has been to welcome a  professional film crew in to create a video of the school in action including some wonderful aerial shots of the site. We are now waiting rather impatiently for the finished product. We will be launching an exciting new initiative in November, with the whole trust joining together to create, "A year of reading." More details of this exciting event will be unveiled to children at the start of next term. I wish you all a very enjoyable, relaxing and hopefully not too wet half term break. A Message From Joanne Crocker

Dear Parents & Carers, I would like to welcome you all back to a fresh school year full of opportunities and new learning experiences. In particular I would like to offer a warm welcome to all our new starters Ebony, Kara, Seth, Freddie, Reuben, Henry and their families - we are really looking forward to getting to know you all over the coming months and years. I'm delighted to be starting this year as the new head of school for both Ashill and Hatch Beauchamp and look forward to working with you all in my new role.  I have been so pleased to see the way all the children have come back looking very smart and with a positive attitude towards their learning. We have already enjoyed both music and sports enrichment with Trevor Lloyd-Jones and a visiting cricket specialist; the children are thoroughly enjoying improving their skills. Each year we like to reflect on all the things that have gone well in the school and how we can go even further to create the best educational experience for your children. With this in mind we always welcome your feedback and there will be both informal and formal opportunities to do this throughout the year. A Message From Joanne Crocker

Dear Parents and Carers, We have been so proud of the children as they have navigated yet another extraordinary year. They have shown courage, resilience and above all an incredibly positive attitude to all the challenges they have faced. We are particularly proud of our year six leavers: Ruben, Jude, William, Luke, Jasmine and Amelia, who have all contributed so much to the life of the school and been a joy to teach. We will miss them all so much, but know they are ready to begin their next adventure.  We would also like to wish Callum and Elliott good luck as they transfer to a new school. We wish them all happiness in their futures. We have other goodbyes we need to say this year too. Firstly, Mrs Rosemary Pitkin and Mr Kevin Warr will be retiring this year. With more than 50 years dedicated service to the school between them, it is safe to say we will be missing two extremely  valued members of our school family. Please come back and visit us. Another goodbye is for Miss Lambert as she moves to Oxfordshire to start a new chapter in her life. We will miss you Lucy, but wish you every success in your future. As much as we hate saying goodbye, we enjoy welcoming new team members and from September we will have new faces around the school. Mr Matthew Maisey will be sharing the teaching in Squirrel Class and Mrs Samantha Poole will be joining Hedgehog Class as their new Learning Support Assistant.  We have already had the pleasure of Miss Paige Aherne starting with us in June as our new mid-day supervisor, she has already settled in and can often be seen refereeing a football game. School timings From September, we will remove our staggered timings and continue to greet the children at the school gate. School will open at 8.45am with lessons starting at 8.55am. The school day will end at 3.15pm for all children. Pre-school will open at 9.00am and close at 3.00pm. Finally, all that remains is to wish you all a very happy, safe summer and we look forward to seeing you all back in September. A Message from Joanne Crocker

Over the last month we have spent time thinking about our school community and the ways in which our relationships with others impact on this. I am sure you have all seen the stunning knitted gate art which residents of the village spent time creating just for us. In addition to this, we have also received many beautifully crafted toys that the school council has big plans for. Through these actions we have realised how important community is to us and that as a school we also need to give back.  We have started by making medicine top flowers which will be incorporated into a 3-D sculpture at St Margaret’s Hospice for all visitors to enjoy.
